Championships

Overview for 2013 Program

U-FLI acknowledges a U-FLI Champion in nine different divisions. These Champions will be determined from the results of an annual Tournament of Champions. In order to compete in the Annual Tournament of Champions, clubs must qualify through Qualification Tournaments.

Qualification Tournaments

Eligibility

  1. Clubs, participants and dogs must be in good standing with U-FLI.
  2. Clubs must have competed in at least two different U-FLI events held on separate weekends, during the 12 months leading up to the closing date of the Qualifier being entered.
  3. Only one team from each club will be allowed to enter a Qualifier.
  4. U-FLI will designate a club’s seedtime, based on the club’s fastest tournament time posted during the 12 months leading up to the closing date of the Qualifier being entered.
  5. Clubs may only enter dogs that are eligible for entry on their Regular Team.
  6. Once a club earns a spot in the Tournament of Champions, they are ineligible for future Qualifiers in that same year.
  7. Clubs that cannot meet the eligibility requirement may qualify for an exception. Inquiries for an exception should be directed to the Championship Committee Chairperson - Connie Skalski rudedogspeedy@aol.com

The Qualifiers

  1. Qualifiers may be held on the same weekend as a U-FLI tournament. Any dogs entered in a U-FLI qualifier may enter no more than three classes of competition. The Qualifier in this instance will be counted as a class of competition.
  2. The Qualifier Championships are named based upon the area they are being held.

Annual Tournament of Champions

Eligibility

  1. Clubs, participants and dogs must be in good standing with U-FLI.
  2. Clubs will qualify for participation by placing First, Second or Third within their division in a Qualifier.
  3. Clubs may only enter dogs that would normally be eligible for entry on their Regular Team.
  4. Clubs will compete in the same division of the Tournament of Champions for which they placed in the Qualifier.
    1. The exception to this would be:
      1. When a Club races a faster time than their current division during or after the Qualifier.
        1. If the faster time is run at a tournament prior to the closing date of the Tournament of Champions, the Club would move to the faster division to compete at the Championship.
        2. If a Club breaks out at a Qualifier, that time will be recorded and become the Club's new best time.

Championship Format

  1. The Tournament will consist of the same divisions and seed times used during the Qualifiers.
  2. Final seeding in each division at the Tournament of Champions will be determined by the results from all of the Qualifiers, based on the combination of the following:
    1. Qualifier placement
    2. Fastest time from Qualifier
  3. The fastest first place finisher from all qualifiers will be the first seed in the division, second fastest first place finisher will be second seed, and so on. The second place finishers will follow the first place seeds, and the third place finishers will follow the second place seeds.
  4. A bracket format may be at the Tournament of Champions to separate large divisions into smaller brackets. Each bracket will race a round robin format.
  5. The final racing format and scoring method will be determined after the closing date of the Tournament of Champions.
  6. Dogs participating in the Championship will earn U-FLI points.
  7. Unless specified in the U-FLI Championship program, all other U-FLI rules of racing will apply.

2013 Championship

  1. 2013 Championship will be held in St. Louis, MO, August 9-11th.
  2. The Tournament will be hosted by U-FLI.

2013 Qualifier and Championship Special Rules

  1. If a team withdraws from racing without just cause, at the opinion of the Head judge or the U-FLI rep, they will be disqualified from placement at the event. If the Head Judge or U-FLI Rep is associated with the team involved, the decision would then be reviewed by the Rules and Regulation Committee.
  2. A Championship Club must always be able to compete against any other Championship Club regardless of division, and except as provided for in section 2.4 of the Rules of Racing, without delay.
